Why Did I Start a Podcast?

I am a senior in college studying chemical engineering. The deadlines were piling up and I was losing my interest in my major. A retired worker from the Chemical Safety Board came to speak to our class one day and I was reminded why I love chemical engineering. Since that class, I have been looking for ways to combat my academic burnout while still learning and growing. For a while, I didn't really know where to go with this. Then, one day I stumbled across NileRed on YouTube. I saw him doing all of these experiments just because he wanted to. It reminded me that I could do something similiar. I might not be able to show people the inside of a manufacturing plant, but I can talk about how my education is preparing me to work in the industry. I can talk about the parts of my major that I love, and I can put the rest temporarily on hold.

I wasn't sure if I could do a podcast on chemical engineering alone. I have only had one internship, and I'm still looking for a fulltime job for after graduation. I had to have a second subject. The obvious answer was writing. I've been writing since I was 5 years old and it's always been my escape from life. I've always wanted to help other people get into writing. I've heard the excuses of, "I'm just not good at it," and "I wouldn't know where to start." I'm hoping that the writing portion of the podcast can give people that starting point and can encourage them the try even if they aren't good. The beautiful thing about writing is that if can always be edited. You can't make a good draft until you put your ideas into a bad one.
